Senior Resource Services was founded by DeeAnn Groves. Caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s kindled her passion in helping the elderly and led her to become a gerontologist. Knowing some of the challenges caregivers are encountering, adult children not knowing where to turn for help, and seniors living alone needing assistance for a better quality of life, was the reason Senior Resource Services was established.
We received our 501c(3) non profit status in 2007 and began two programs:
“Time-Out” Caregiver Respite program and Special Friend Program. Volunteers provide assistance in these two programs and everything is free of charge to the senior.
We began with one client and one caregiver and as of today, they have bonded and enjoy one another’s company. In 2012 we have 370 clients and 168 volunteers. We are now over 570 clients. Our numbers in Greeley and the other communities in Weld County are increasing daily.
Our most popular programs are; free transportation to appointments, grocery shopping and special events.
Because of grants and the generosity of businesses and individuals we are able to have an office with an Executive Director, Administrative Assistant, Development and Outreach Coordinator, North and Central Weld Volunteer Coordinator, Client In-take Coordinator, and a Vista Volunteer. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Our Staff
Janet Bedingfield, Executive Director
Janet’s career was spent as a primary teacher, stay-at-home mom, and State Farm Supervisor. Her volunteering has included schools, Trinity Episcopal Church, Relay for Life, Cattle Barron’s Ball, Team Fisher, Greeley Stampede, and Guadalupe Shelter. She gets great joy from time spent with her children, grandchildren, parents, and dog, and also enjoys working out, hiking, water skiing, riding horses, entertaining, gardening, writing, and watercolor painting. Her passion for SRS’ mission stems from the belief that our aging population is not highly visible and rarely asks for help, resulting in their being underserved. |
Becky Sperber, Administration & Grants
| Becky worked for Aims for 22 years and came out of retirement to help Senior Resource Services for the past five years. She and her husband Michael enjoy spending time with her children and grandchildren as well as traveling around the world including yearly visits to South Padre Island and recently, Australia & Mexico. She also enjoys cooking, having lunch with her mother and exercising. |
Theresa Schunter, Volunteer Coordinator
| Teresa has moved from being a Volunteer for Senior Resource Services into the Volunteer Coordinator position. She is passionate about helping the Senior Citizens in our communities remain in their homes. She schedules all the rides for our Clients with a Volunteer driver. She always has a "smile" in her voice when talking to our Clients. She continues to drive our Clients to their appointments when needed. Welcome aboard Teresa! |
Connie Osaki-Hansen, Office Assistant
Connie is a Greeley native. Having worked in the graphic design field for 30 years, she is now involved in other artistic endeavors. She loves pursuing other passions; working with seniors, spending time with family, gardening and cooking.
